| As we all know times are tight for everyone, which is especially true for the dogs of Northern Greyhound; donations are down though we have as many dogs as ever - and more will need the care of a rescue soon. Your help is crucial!
The dogs' needs haven’t stopped or slowed down; each dog that comes in must be spayed or neutered, given a full wellness check, and vaccinated fully. There are also needs beyond the basic intake care; often retired racers arrive with health issues like broken legs or pinched nerves, and sometimes need to be treated for dental work above and beyond basic cleaning. And recently we've had more emergency procedures and other expenses than usual - even the washing machine (for cleaning the dogs' bedding) died and needed to be replaced ASAP instead of hoping for one to be donated.
And now the basic things that could be counted on donation-wise are no longer available ... N.G.A. used to be able to count on donations of food from local stores, but no longer. Perfectly fine dog food that arrived in ripped bags that used to be donated to the Greyhounds now gets taped up and sold at a discount. And the stores that do still donate do so to to more than just N.G.A.
On a positive note; N.G.A. had a recent routine inspection from the Vermont State Department of Agriculture and the inspector was very happy to see that not only are all State regulations followed to the letter, but also that N.G.A.’s kennel manager goes above and beyond that for the dogs’ needs and well-being.
We need to be able to continue that high level of care and are confident that a good many of N.G.A.'s supporters & adopters would be happy to be part of that.
If you can make a financial gift that would be wonderful! All donations go directly to helping the Greyhounds - they need things, but they also need funds for their vet care and overhead costs.
Sometimes our adoptable dogs are with us for many months before their forever family finds them ... that donation in the form of the adoption fee only covers a small part of the overall cost of care of a dog at the kennel - your donations MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!

Non-monetary donations are appreciated as well! Here is a list of items that the kennel could really use ...
blankets & soft bedding - this is a big need, Greys have no extra body fat and thin fur, comfy bedding makes their lives so much better! (Sheets do not give much for bedding but polar fleece and wool blankts are great, comforters are welcome too; and if you can cut king-sized comforters in half and sew back together the open ends that would be awesome! It really helps when they need to be washed.)
high quality kibble & healthy treats - please call ahead for brands/varieties, or for a quick guideline the brands that Pet Food Warehouse lists are all good, as is Blue Seal made in nearby New Hampshire. (Sorry, but low-end kibble from grocery stores and discount stores will upset their delicate digestive systems; especially as they are transitioning from track feed to kibble.)
Rawhide rolls made for larger dogs help keep the dogs busy and their teeth cleaned. Unflavored ones are best for their stomachs, and please not the ones with knots on the ends as those are more of a choking hazard. Costco sells inexpensive and good quality bags of plain rolled rawhides often.
dog toys & stuffed animals to cuddle - no "bean-filled" (styrofoam or plastic beads) toys or toys that could be choking hazards, please - and "squeakers" get them all barking so those are to be avoided too - thank you!
cleaning supplies - including laundry detergents, general cleaners, gentler detergents preferred & nothing using ammonia please
If no one is at the kennel when you drop off your donation specifically for the dogs you may leave it at the kennel entrance - thank you!
